- 222,000 work related accidents in 2010 – 100,900 resulted in days away from work. Health Care had the highest number of injures following closely behind was the leisure and hospitality industry.

Vergie Y. Bain – Compliance Assistance Specialist for the Ft. Lauderdale Area Office of OSHA. Ms. Bain has been employed by OSHA for over 30 years. Her positions with OSHA range from Senior Industrial Hygienist, Voluntary Protection Program’s Team Leader/Coordinator for the State of Florida. She is currently in charge of all outreach activities for the Ft. Lauderdale Area Office. Her responsibilities no longer includes enforcement, she is exclusively devoted to assist employers, employees and community groups to familiarize themselves with safety and health issues, as well as to develop programs that explore partnership opportunities on a full time basis. Ms. Bain has a B.S. – Shaw University (Chemistry) Post graduate education from University of Miami, Miami, Florida and Florida International University, Miami, Florida.
